north van aircare = gayness

yes well north van aircare = gheyfacks!

who else agrees with me on that.... i swear there out to get up f-body owners... i just got off the phone with "aircare" or w/e got a # off there website...

northvan aircare told me the last time i went though that i needed an EGR on my intake and cats.

well i have an 80z i understand why i would need cats, i just fixed that by getting some of my piping cut so that i can pop in some cats and take that out again for aircare but an EGR! WTF

so ya this guy told me that pre 88 there is no visual inspection for emission controls like the smog protection thingy, and EGR hell there not ever aloud of open ur hood! i was like wtf thats weird...

so yes this is my rant. i am now done..

time for other ppl to vent.

i will find u....... and i will kill u. cough aircare cough
thats right they will run into my knife, they will run into my knife 10 TIMES!

Thumbs down

So they need to visually see the air pump/cats and EGR? If they look for the EGR on a TPI motor good luck seeing it without removing the plenum. Aircares a joke!

Hold on a second here. You said you failed emissions - maybe they were just trying to suggest a way to help you pass by telling you to get an EGR. Many cars need a functioning EGR to pass aircare emissions readings - maybe that is what the aircare guys are getting at. If your NOx readings are what caused you to fail, then a functioning EGR system will help bring that reading down.

I have an 81 and am dreading aircare. The car hasn't passed in a few years (moved to Ontario - didn't need any emissions there - moved back - safety exempts you from aircare for 1 year).

They can only go by the #'s they see with emissions. My car has never had cats and I've long since removed all emissions crap.

The only time I had a problem was when I bought the car the exhaust ended before the rear axle and they wouldn't test it.

These aircare guys are often full of ****. How old are you? I'd suggest bringing an older person who won't take crap with you, otherwise they'll try to BS the hell out of you.

Good luck!

Yeah, all they do is check the cats and that's if they have enough of those mirros togo around. The only other check they do is your VIN and that's it. They are all groogy workers cuz they spend there day sniffing exh fuems till the work day is over.

I don't think Talos ever said he was given an inspection under the hood, maybe he just assumed they would look for an EGR setup when they told him he should install one.

Talos, what were your readings? We might be able to get you through if you tell us what your emissions readouts were.

an EGR setup should have little or no noticeable effect on your performance.

go with the 640 demon .. too big a CFM will hurt u pretty bad on a mild stock engine .. and yeah .. the holley is a bit tricky .. or at least my 600 cfm was ... but it gained me MAJOR power over my stock 750 Q-Jet ... the airgap is a very nice piece too ... u should notice a good power difference with the carb / intake .. just need a cam and a set of heads ..

next time u goto air care: retard timing to the point that ur car is about to DIE .. then screw in the idle screw till she idles again .. repeat till u cant retard no more and keep her idling at around 1300 with the idle screw .. unplug the vaccum advanve on ur distributor and plug it up with a screw ... u should be good to go

i can tune ur car for air care if u want and a 1980 shouldnt need cats .. my 79 Z28 went thru aircare without any cats .. they told me no at first .. then i told them to shut the hell up and check their books .. and they did .. and i passed

ya, that aircare is bs! i gots my 79 Z28 and i got no emissions control units whatsoever! not even cats! cuz you dont need cats till 87 and later i think. besides, your not required to have any of those for that old of a car. i know that for a fact!
