Accident in Maple Ridge

My heart goes out to the people killed. Here is a link to a quick jot in The Province

http://www.canada.com/vancouver/thep...e-8c81b2b5738a

I live 2 blocks away from where the people died. The scarry thing is, they said they were looking for a silver car that sped away from the scene. The accident happened at 10pm, and I remember driving through that intersection at 9:38pm, coming back from my girlfriends house.. and everthing seemed normal. I drive a silver car... but I found out today they were looking for a silver "compact" and I don't think my GTP resembles a compact.. but that's some scarry stuff. My heart goes out to all the people. I could be dead right now. I feel sick to my stomach hearing about the news.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

well some of the people that caused it are already dead. its highly unlikey the other guilty party will step up.

ill be the first to admit to street racign, ive done it, ive done it without traffic, ive done some in traffic. but what ive learned from those instances is that people really dont know how to drive, they dont know how to handle their cars at there speeds and and they dont know what the hell is going on around them as they slice in and out of traffic. i now know not to race certain people because they just dont know how to drive, i now know why people wrap themselves around poles. i dont mind doing a little red light to redlight, but even then sometimes i think im gettign too old for this LOL.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

I had a near miss with two mustang drivers Saturday night, going thru cloverdale. One of the mustangs was in the right lane, inching past the cars in the left lane (4 lane road), and as soon as he had enough room, it looked like he gunned it to switch lanes.

Well, he didn't sound stock, and at night, on a cold road, tires don't grip too well.

Instead of mildly switching lanes, his car went 90 degrees instantly, missing the car on his left he was passing by maybe a foot or two, and swerving into the oncoming traffic. He had about 100 feet between him and 6-8 cars coming down the hill at 80km/hr+, of whose lane HE was in. Luckily he swerved back into the proper lanes and everyone hit their brakes in all directions. Avoided a near miss for all of us. He almost rolled over.

I was two cars behind him, may 60-80 feet. If he hadn't been lucky, he likely would have taken out multiple cars in the ongoing lanes and I probably would have had a good probability of landing in the mess since I was so close.

I just got to vent on this.

People who drive that aggressively in bloody february at NIGHT when the road is likely 2-5 Degrees C should be shot. I mean, you have no traction. What are you thinking? Summer, when the roads are warm, is a different story when the roads are warm and the tires doubly so. But a semi-winter night? Good grief.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

from what i read in todays province, looked like the silver guy may have been racing with the delslow, cut him off possibly causing the delslow to swerve and lose control. theres a good chance this was a impromptu street race, but again guys should know there limits and know when to brake and when to slow down, and how to slice traffic. i think the shadow was blue.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

no the guys friend said he had it equipped with nitrous, doesnt prove that it was in use, we dont even know if it was a street race, though it could have been. the guy coudl have been going fast and a ricer decided he would do a fly by, cutting the guy off resulting in the delslow to lose control.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

My condolences go out to all the family and friends of these unfortunate people. When will young people learn that driving fast and pushing a car passed its capability is life threatening especially at night this time of year as Chris mentioned. My silver bird cruises out that way but I wouldn't waste my time racing wannabe's under those conditions.

Re: Accident in Maple Ridge

Agreed with Roy and Chris, people should be shot for street racing in this cold weather, it goes to show they don't know how to drive, handle their cars, if they did, they wouldn't do it in this weather, they were prolly not street racers, just wannabees that thought about mashing the pedal to see who is faster, if they were street racers they would know their limits and especially in this weather, these guys were most likely amateurs, worse then the street racing bunch of amateurs you would usually see, it is because they have banned street racing that no one does it on a normal basis for fun, and once in their life they get a chance and feel 100% no one is watching them and they'll go for it having never mashed the medal around a corner before thinking there is a cop around the corner that will take their license away.

It was better before, you'd see a fast car that looks and sounds intimidating and you say to the guy, "wanna go for it? Lets go, I know somewhere safe (sweet spot)". Now everyone is afraid of the word organized street racing and that spot that you want that guy to go to, because of all the penalties now seems like a way to get roasted for life, so peeps will just do it right there on the street in traffic or whatever wherever they met and then kill themselves because they thought here is won’t get followed and will get away with it.

The thing of the past is gone, where you would tell someone go follow you, race them a few times, and if a cop came down cuz someone called it in, if they see you, you got a ticket and if they don't, then they'll ask you a few questions and tell you to leave. Those days are gone, if someone calls you in, or a cop even thinks you were up to some sort of racing you're gone. Now you hear about everyone dying all over the place, cuz you can' t stop the urge of mashing the pedal, especially when you just bought a car a sales man and a bunch of commercials, told you about “the open road” and the power you could put down to the ground, the urge is there, you keep it in long enough, you'll get yourself in trouble.
