Shopping for a Vette
Shopping for a Vette
Tis the time of year fo new car shopping. Forget christmas, this is the time to score a great deal if you have patience and the skill to bargain hard, real hard. I'm going shopping for a new vette next week, are you listening Kal2k? First I'll look at the C6 if they have any on the lot? Probably have to settle for brochures. I'm thinking I can get a smokin deal on a 50th C5, I've already looked at them but never tried to buy yet. I've really enjoyed my firehawk and I'll miss her if I let her go which I have to do for a new vette. I'll consider a demo or maybe a private deal on a near new one. Wish me luck and I'll post the results of my search and the best deals I can find.
c6 will not be out for awhile...... they don't even have details on it yet.....other then those spy pics that were released last week....if your going for pure performance.....get the z06......but if your going for looks and just an all around good ride....then u gotta get a vert! good luck
I love the ZO6 except for that closed in feeling from the hardtop. I'm sure I'd get over that once I hit the gas. I've never owned a convertable so that would be my first choice. I'd have no problem with a coupe, there's more of them and they are cheaper. Ordering a new vette is cheaper cause the lot has no out of pocket expenses. So Todd, why does a yellow vette hold it's value more? Time to maybe disagree again.
I just can't stand yellow or green, just my personal taste so those colours are out. I like black the best, harder to maintain but it looks the best all zaino'd up. There's a couple of near new vetts in the paper, I need an auto trader. At least I wont have any trouble at all unloading the firehawk. No C6's in stock yet, no problem. I wouldn't drive it till next year anyways. I'll let everyone know how low they will go on a new C6. Anyone interested in a group order?

C6!!!!!
I have a feeling they will be significantly more $$$ then a 2004 C5 - maybe in the $80K+ range. The C6s will probably be sold for significantly higher then MSRP because demand will be high. To get a lower price you might need to look into buying from the US and importing it.
Yellow holds its value because it is a special order color only, and is quite rare. Same for Magnetic Red. Mag Red is my personal favorite, but I am going with black because all of the used Mag Red verts I found for sale were automatics

as far as unloading your firehawk goes i doubt it will be that easy. wasnt there a post a while back about a guy trying to unload his firehawk. problem is no one wants to pay as much as there actually worth. so unless your willing to take a huge hit on it i dont think it will be that easy.
as far as yellow goes, its more of a rare colour thats why its worth more. but good luck on your search.

Thats the only car to trade your hawk in on man . Keep your hawk and get a 97 - 98 vete coupe to tinker with for 45 ish . If you buy a 04 vette you'll lose 40 000 $ in 3 years . Thats just not worth the difference in model year etc imo . When the C6 hitts the 04 c5's are going to drop like rocks . I feel sorry for the peeps that bought 96 vettes . 2 kewl cars are better than 1

What is the deal with the 50th anniversary? Is there any difference in that car other than the badging??? Just curious why they cost more than a regular vette. I would say get your hands on a 2001+ but I am with Twitch, upgrade into a Viper
buying a viper is a much better long term investment....you won't lose much.....the vette will depricate alot!!! unless of course u bought a zr1
I know I will be driving a viper one of these days

Viper? Very nice car and it will beat a vet. They do cost more on average though and they are harder to find. I'm putting down around $25,000.00 so the financing rate plays a very important part of the equation. The rate on the vet is 2.9%. Any used car would mean a bank loan at higher rates. If I trade-in the hawk I'll lose big coin but I'll only have to pay taxes on the differance. The firehawk was $46,000.00, if I buy a new vet for let's say around 50 some odd thousand dollars, I'll only pay tax on around $10,000.00 saving me around $5,000.00. Sure I'll lose close to 10 grand on the hawk but I talked them down close to $8,000.00 off the msrp. I'm going to try this same technique on buying the new vet. Year-end clearance and a new model C6 is driving down the price of the C5 already. The Viper is a great suggestion and I will reluctantly go to the Chrysler dealer and check them out. I'd like a NSX and dozen other exotic cars too and I'll see what's available. I'm also checking into how much it would cost to bring a car across the border.
I'm sure the list of taxes haven't changed but the exchange sure has.
If they want more than the msrp for a new C6 which I doubt, then it's out of the question. Once the new C6 hits the dealers they'll be begging me to take a C5 off their hands.

Todd, no duty on a vet from the states. Does that apply to a new one too? I'm gonna call border people tomorrow for details. I think you've steered me in a southernly direction. Seattle here we come, if nothing there it's the city of angels next. I'm gonna hit Carter in Poco on my days off. I saw a nice black coupe and a Z06 there. Eagle Ridge Pontiac has a 02 Zo6 for $62,900.00? I haven't checked out used yet, it would have to be totally mint, no swirls and very low mileage to go that root.
