Mortally wounded.

Well folks I have had to reach the conclusion that the rings are shot on the new bottom end. Unfortunately I had a number of occassions in the first 500 miles (about 4 I guess) where the car overheated. At this point I'm speculating that the rings have been destroyed as a result. One never know without taking it apart and I just don't know if I can do that again. At this point I have to pull the plugs and have a look at them. I also have to replace the drivers side header gasket.

In addition, although the car was making terriffic strides on the tuning front, all of a sudden, out of no where the car starts running super lean, really rough and candidly I'm just loosing my heart in this.

I'm almost positive that I will not be running this year. In fact, the car may well be spending a long time in the garage. I'm outta money to just keep writing cheques.

There remain a ton of little things to do on the car. The tranny / shifter is not working as it should and I do not know why. VERY difficult to get into reverse and somewhat tough to change gears.

Bottom line is that I have spent 7 months of time (and a lot of time from you fine folks) and I'm back looking at having to take the motor out in the middle of summer.

Feeling really p**sed off right now.

Man this is really sad to hear . You have been very generous to me with your time and garage space so if you need extra hands for anything I will be there to help out.

What made you decide that the rings are gone? is it still smoking blue? what are you getting when you do compression tests?

I'm burning oil and it blowing blue, BIG time. I was hoping the "the rings would seal" but it looks to me a lot more serious then that.

I may try and see what the tuning problem is. Maybe a spark problem but "I'm just so tired, boss".

Come see me sometime Payam. We need to swap stuff and i would not mind you or Matt looking at things on the tuning side.

Shaun

If you want to send your engine to MTI I will be more than happy to drop a good word for ya.

Other option is for Jim Richmond to go through the motor for you and see what is up, maybe even when you get up and running take the complete package there and engine dyno tune it out of the car.

Sorry to hear your having problems

Thanks Steve. I'll be going to a different builder next time. Just foi a change. I'll probably use Rashpaul. He as already helped me a lot and he does impress me. He is a real perfectionist and I can leave the car in MY garage and he'll help me re&re and set up when installed.

That is for another day though. But as you say, maybe best to get it engine dynoed next time. Can they work with the blower and intercooler and FAST and s**t?or is it just the block with a carbed top?

Steve, you know much about overheating and rings? Does it take just once?

No they can do it any way you want. They can break it in on carb if you want then swap on your equipment (blower etc..) The engine dyno is good cause you do not have other issues with tuning it is all in a fixxed area and you can sit there and look at what is happening etc..

Might want to try this for next time build everything outside of the car on the K member then install all in one fail swoop. Not sure on your room in your garage but it can be done fairly easily.

It could take just once if it goes really lean but haven't you been having issues with coolant etc.. How lean did it go? Was it detonating?

What a way to end off all that work, damn. I'd close the garage door for a month, then go for a ride in a few fast cars and start at it again.

PS - Skydiving will clear your head

Sorry to hear that Shawn, maybe it's time to take a break and clear your head for a few weeks and focus on other things and then revisit the car situtation.

This may be a opportunity to jump ship and get that Viper you've always wanted.
That's a whole wack more money though......
At least then you could keep it stock.(mostly)

What about selling the engine and getting a nice stock LS1 under the hood?
You wouldn't have the 571 tire melting horse power but it would still be a great ride!

I guess the best thing in the long run is to make do with what you have. Take a step back for a while and the evaluate your situation with a different perspective.
I wish you the best of luck.

Steve.
