Credit a large amount of our high price to our lovely government (as well as the Venuzula problem). In US gallons and US dollars, 82 cents/l works out to be $1.90 US a gallon. Go down to the states and prices are likely $1.35-1.45. We do get ripped of for most everything in Canada.

It's not the fact that it goes up that bothers me. It's that it goes up near 30c at a time. I could totally handle it if petrol went up 1c a year and stayed.........these fluctuations are what pisses me off.
Now when the price goes back down, you can bet it will take it's sweet time and stop a week at at time every 5c.
Goes up fast - Comes down slow.

if war breaks out gas prices will rise, if the US looks as it's winning and that the war will end soon - prices will fall quickly on expectation of increased supply.

If the issue in SA gets resolverd there will be downwards pressure on oil prices.

Another interesting possibility would be if Arab nations use oil prices to pressure the US into avoiding war. Saudi Arabia does not support a war with Iraq and could possibly cut supply in order to protest. This would cause oil prices to rise even further, pummeling the US economy. Unrest at home may well force Bush to pull out.

Venuzula is one of the larger suppliers of crude oil and currently they are going through a strike situation, causing a noticable low supply (which leads to higher prices).

This pisses me off to. Especially because if the US experienced such rapid price swings (and differences between areas, where in BC the price diff can be 20 cents only 20 minutes away), they would go beserk.

A 30 cent change for us would be a 50 cent price change in the US (or more, depending on the impact of taxes). Could you imagine if the price of gas per gallon rose 50 cents overnight in the US? Then dropped 40 cents the next day? Well, that's precisely what we have happening to us (but since we're priced in litres, it doesn't look that bad - talk about an ideal marketng situation for the oil companies - the customers don't really how much the prices are REALLY changing).
