I'm a big Linux fan, and I hate to admit it, but I use XP at work and it seems to be stable. It's only crashed on me once when I shut down.

Try downloading a program like memtest86 and see if it's your RAM that's bad.

I downloaded the memtest but it wants to use my floppy drive for the test and thats screwed . I do have a stick of aftermarket ram instaled so you may be onto something .

Isnt Ram temporary memory it uses when its thinking and transfering not actual system file storage . I think if it were ram though there wouldnt be the same problem over and over with the oxc0000006 file missing ? Im leaning towards a software compatibility issue still . Is there another ram test that runs off the system in windows , without the use of a floppy ?

A new floppy drive is only $10-15 and about 5 minutes to install.

Disable write caching on the IDE controller, your hard drive sounds like its having issues. At least if it crashes you won't need to reformat. Has it ever been dropped or jolted a bit harder then it should? Sounds like its having write errors because its reocurring and because of your missing system folder.... I had a similar error on an old compaq laptop. I hate laptops, the break down too soon
When its non recoverable its likely the disk failing and you losing data or the pointer to data getting mis written.

It was shpped all the way to ontario to get repaired and back , ontop of me getting pissed at it a few times . What I dont understand is why it picks the same folder or file to missplace all the time . Its frustrating as hell .

Will this affect anything else badly ?? I hate reformating this pos . If it wasnt for this problem the laptop has been awsome , I really like it when its not gimptarded and self destructing . I was also told XP has a laptop version and a Desktop version which I have confirmed , and the laptop version is sub par . . . . way more prone to crashing ? Have you heard anything about this ?

Thanks for your help
