need help with obd1

need help with obd1

I have a 1994 Z/28 my check engine light is and and I have tried the key and bought a code reader for it and the light still wont flash, all it does is turn the fans on any help will be greatly appreciated.....thanks.....

As Ted noted, best place for tech questions is the 'tech' forums.

For a quick answer, you can't use a "code reader" that shorts the ALDL connector pins, and flashes the codes on the SES light with a 94 or newer LT1. Last year that would work was 93, and you didn't need a $30 code reader, you just needed a paperclip to short the pins.

For a 94 LT1 you need to use a real OBD-I scanner, with a 12-pin ALDL connector and it's own dsiplay screen. Auto Xray used to make some great OBD-I scanners, and you can find them used on ebay. Alternatively, you can put free software on a laptop, get a cable and scan the PCM, reading the codes, and seeing the values for the critical sensors and PCM parameters.
