I need some quick help with this OBD1 PCM with an OBD2 Motor swap!
Ok...I sold my motor from my 97 Z to a buddy of mine. He has a 95 Z28. My 97 was an A4 and his 95 is an M6.
Heres the deal...he has the stock gear ratio (3.42's) in the rear and an OBD 1 PCM. The PCM I gave him along with the Motor is an OBD2 PCM programmed for an A4 w/ 3.73s.
How can we get his OBD1 PCM to work with the OBD2 motor WITHOUT swapping trannys and rears?
How does the OBD1 conversion work? Can he just send his OBD1 PCM out to get programmed for the OBD2 motor?
He said he wanted to just drop the A4 rearend in (which is still mine), but I explained to him that his PCM is for an M6 and the only way for him to use the OBD2 PCM, is to swap the M6 tranny for the A4 tranny, but he wants to keep his M6 in there.
So, can any of you "gurus" explain as many options as you can think of to which way would be best to get his car running perfect after the swap?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated...and thanks in advance!!!!
Let me know ASAP...thanks again

lucky for him, this can be done fairly easily. what you will need is the old knock sensor from the 95 block of a new one for 94-95 LT1s. the sensor is located under the pass side head, kinda in the middle and should have a blue wire going to it.
now because the trannies arent the same and gears are different, among other things. you will need to have that computer reflashed with the correct program. now you have options here. he can buy a cable from Andrew at www.akcables.com and then get mail order(email) tune from Bryan at www.pcmforless.com. now if you dont want the mail order tune, you could do it yourself and order tunercat for maybe a little cheaper. theres a 30 day trial for free you can download but then need to pay $25 to get the special definition file to open it. lastly, you could go to a dealership and tell them you need a program for a 95 LT1 with so and so tranny and gears...might cost you $60 or so. hope that helps a little

And then he can just send his OBD1 PCM to bryan for a quick tune?
ALso, what if he decides to put on the dual cat exhaust off of the 97 to the 95...would that have anything to do with anything?
Just wondering...some more help would be coool
thanks again!
