Post Why not Propane?

I have heard of some nitrous kits for Vipers with propane injection, why not for the F-Body. Lots of pros but no cons,
It wouldnt be putting a load on the fuel system, cools the intake charge, would flow good in a EFI manifold, as it is a gas right, and it has like 104 octane rating right? Seams a little silly that no one has offered it, there must be a reason though. Has anyone seen or heard of results from a viper with this setup? Still doent understand why we cant get it if the viper can.

I know thare isn't one for the LT1 yet,but there is a system for the LS1 vette. I am sure it could be adapted for the LS1 Camaro or Firebird.

It was the same company that made it for the viper. I will see if I can find the link.

Actually, I see more disadvantages with propane than advantages.

The big 2 being - monitoring and refilling another bottle.

Why even bother? You dont need more than 93 octane pump gas to run a 70-150 shot on a stock compression ls1. If you just want something different, then that's understandable. But if you're lookn for functional, then an NX or TNT kit would be a much better choice for the money. In fact, you could seriously upgrade your fuel system for extra coin the propane kit would cost.

I'm not trying to discourage you from something you want to do - I just see it as more $$$ and more hassles, with no hp gains over a basic wet kit.

Good luck with whichever route you decide to take.

Another disadvantage is that propane is a flammable gas, where nitrous isn't.

There starting to make propane kits for turbocharged vechiles to replace alki injection. these kits are cheaper the btr's, there around $500 or less. these can be adapted for nitrous kits using a WOT switch

Propane injection is a HUGE deal in performance diesels. (Yes performance diesel trucks can be very scary fast.) Do some searching in the areas of Cummins Turbos and Power Strokes and you can get some info on propane injection.

www.dynamicracing.com made their own propane kit after the owner tried it on his viper. they have also used it with great success on turbo 3000gt's and supras.

pros of propane:

1 increases octane
2 lowers knock
3 cools intake temperature
4 one 5lb bottle lasts a LONG time
5 CHEAP to refill, and can be refilled almost anywhere

cons

1 it can blow up
