Quick nitrous questions...

1. Can nitrous expire? I havent used my bottle since '98 when my truck burned down, and I just bought a kit for my formula. The bottle still has 6lbs of juice in it.

2.There is an expiration date on the bottle also. Do you have to have the bottle recertified or something every so many years? If so, Where at and how much will it cost?

From what I have heard the nitrous can not go bad but do you want to take the chance of ruining your solenoids. I don't have an expiration date on my bottle but I know at the track you have to use a blow down tube. If your bottle doesn't have one they can boot you. Not a big deal if you aren't going to the track

Nitrous won't "break down", and even if it did, the resulting nitrous and oxygen wouldn't hurt the solenoids.

However, the tank must be recertified for pressure every 5 years, and the manufacture date should be stamped on the bottle. All of mine have dates... some in the form of "10@02", or "01A99". NHRA rules require that the bottle carry a DOT-1800 stamp, and DOT-1800 requires that the bottle be recertified every 5 years. Some refillers will not refill an expired botttle, others will.

If your bottle is obviously outdated, dump the nitrous and have it recertified. I think I've paid $35-40 for recertification.
