Propane?
Anyone here running propane for enrichment? It's looking attractive to me for the following reasons:
1 - Requires significantly less investment in my fuel system;
2 - Should result in better fuel distribution than gasoline when spraying in front of the throttle plate;
3 - Provides additional cooling of the intake air charge;
4 - Provides a bit of an octane boost;
5 - The bottle fits in my 4-body trunk with no issues
I know that some diesel guys use for enrichment when spraying nitrous (they use propane alone, too, but for different reasons), but I haven't heard much about it in the domestic streetcar world. Just wondering if anyone has some input.

I've heard of some of the Viper guys going this route. Might wanna take a look around their circles...

Hey Eric,
I've seen ready made systems for Vipers and Vettes.
The only thing that would have me worried is having the fuel under pressure right next to an oxidizer, also under pressure.

Thanks for the concern, but if the nitrous bottle goes, it'd wipe out any automotive fuel cell and make a fairly bad mess anyways
Honestly, I doubt that either bottle would be in the trunk the majority of the time, but gotta think of safety. I'm guessing that a DOT-legal propane tank is just a bit tougher than the average gas-grill item? I'll go snoop around some Viper sites. Checked out a lot of diesel sites upon the advice of a Powerstroke-knowledgable friend, but I'm not sure there's much to be learned from those freaks

Ya just had to make me look for this stuff for ya didn't you!
(Okay Okay, so I can't sleep.)
http://www.btrviper.com/
They have an LS1 NOS/Propane Injection system for $1299
http://www.btrviper.com/vetteproducts.php
and a Viper system for $1799 (and as much as $2999 for a dual stage)
http://www.btrviper.com/nitrous.html
I really don't see where the systems would be much different besides maybe some mounting hardware, etc. Maybe you can get em to cut you some slack since you're gonna have a different application anyways...

Thanks for the links, Kraest!
$579 for a propane upgrade kit for existing systems? Yikes - seems a bit pricy for a tank, valve, and likely a new high-pressure solenoid (to replace the standard fuel solenoid)
I'm going to spend a bit of time next week to call up a few kit manufacturers and get their opinion on the situation. I'll report back when I get some more info. Diesel-boy is back in the office next week, too, so I'm going to pry some more info out of him.

But anyways, Eric, I have a friend down here with a GTS viper with the BTR propane/nitrous kit. He likes it alot. I am not sure why its used so exclusively though on just their cars

the guys at http://www.dynamicracing1.com/ use propane on alot of turbo cars.....mostly VR4s and Supras, with excellent results. cools intake temps better than water/alky, and also lowers knock.
i think the full kits are like 5-600.
the owner also has a Viper with a 200 shot of nitrous, and i believe he uses propane on it.

Sorry 'bout that, Kurtis. Thanks for that link to Dynamicracing, got_hp?. Looks like there's quite a few forum threads over there that I'll be studying.

heres another thread with a 3si member giving his review of a variable propane kit.

No progress yet, other than lots of BSing over lunch with some nitrous-knowledgable local guys. Tranny problems with both B-bodies and the wife's ongoing urge to work on this "home" place (apparently it's the building that's attached to my garage?) have put the brakes on any serious work until this summer, at the earliest.
