NOS bottle question

I have one of the old tall skinney 10 lb bottles NOS brand. It is dated 94 if that matters. Is there anything wrong with using this? I was going to try to round up one or two bottles. I have found some of these old botles reasonable on eaby and around. I dont want to have 2 diffrent bottle brackets. Any suggestions?

Re: NOS bottle question

Up until just recently that's what I used exclusively.......as long as it's got the Hi-Flow valve which Im sure it does (but check anyway) a bottle's a bottle..........Im not sure what bottle brackets you have, but In my Vette Im still using the plastic ones that came in the kit for use with the old tall skinny NOS bottle, now being used on a bran new short fat NOS bottle......I just went to home depot and picked up some nice stainless bolts to bridge the gap.it looks alot better than it sounds , this way I can run both bottle styles......Joe

Re: NOS bottle question

The only thing I can think of that would keep me from using one of the older style bottles is the valve. Assuming that it has a valve capable of flowing what you need it to, and assuming it's in good shape (does the valve ever wear out?) it should be fine.

Re: NOS bottle question

Here in NJ, some shops will not refill the bottles if the inspection date is expired. Technically, the bottle needs to be tested and recertified for pressure every 5 years.

Where can a person go to get that done?

My local scuba shop pressure tests tanks, so Im guessing many do...they can also replace the seals if needed

Re: NOS bottle question

The only place to fill them around here is about 30 minutes away in Bowling Green. They told me that it didnt matter about certification that they would fill them. I guess Ill try to round up a couple of more bottles and use these. Thanks fellas.

Re: NOS bottle question

Welding supply shops will pressure test and stamp the bottles.
