I have 3.73s and wish I had 3.42s. I think they would be a perfect gear for an n2o A4.

Well for all you guys that want 3.42's I have a perfect set forsale out of my T/A. They make 0 noise and have worked great. I put the 4.10's in this weekend and my car is a beast with em. I should make it to the track this weekend and will post results. LMK if anyone is interested. Later Clint

I just installed a 100 shot NX kit and 3.42 strange gears @ the same time. My car is a daily driver and I went for the 3.42 over the 3,73's for that reason.

I am glad I didnt let my friends talk me into the 3.73's.

On the freeway @ 70 mph in OD I am hitting about 2200-2300rpm, in D I am revving @ about 3100-3200rpm. I think I could still drive her on a long trip with these gears in OD.

Although it was noticeable enough (accompanied with the Corsa exhaust note) that when my wife (who didnt know about any of the new mods) drove it for the first time after the work was done, she said, "What are you doing to this car, the engine sounds like it's gonna blow up, you're revving it too high!". Women.

Point of the story. I am glad I went with 3.42's in an A4, they are plenty.

P.S. I can get traction out of the hole with or w/o the squeeze w/stock tires and 3.42's. If you drive it everyday, I say 3.23-3.42 is the acceptable range without dramatically changing the geometry of the car.

P.P.S. Thunder Racing said go 3.42 with a power adder (Nitrous/SC/Turbo and/or a torque converter) and 3.73 w/o.

P.P.P.S. My Strange gears has a little acceleration whine. Is this normal?

It's normal for most aftermarket gear sets to while a little. It's because the gears are made of a little different materal than the factory gears. Basically, you give up "comfort" of a quiet gear for strength. Some aftermarket gears don't make much noise, but they're pretty much the exception, not the rule.

Thanks ... I will live with it. They sure do make a 2.73 A4 feel like a different animal
