gauge w/wet kit
gauge w/wet kit
I was wondering if anyone has in stalled a fuel pressure gauge with a wet kit. My fuel solenoid gets fed off the rail. Is there a fitting to "Y" off the shraeder valve? Also, all the isolators I've seen are for carb(low pressure). I'd like to mount in a pod, outside is too showy on a street car. thnx
All you need to do to add a gauge is put a "tee" in the fuel line that comes off the Schrader valve. You can get "tees" that fit -AN lines from NOS, and probably from Earls and others. NOS PN 17800 is a -3AN tee, 17810 is the -4AN tee. Or you could get a plain brass 1/8NPT tee at any hardware store, and use -AN to NPT adapters for the connections- NOS PN 17650 = -3AN to 1/8NPT, 17660 = -4AN to 1/8NPT. NOS also sells "gauge adapters" that allow you to insert a fitting with -AN male on one end, and -AN female on the other end, and a 1/8NPT female for the gauge. NOS PN 16770 = -4AN gauge adapter.
As far as an "isolator"..... AutoMeter makes a "high pressure isolator... PN 5882. But it is about $130. And, it is a major PITA to make it work.... difficult to keep the passenger side compartment filled with glycol. I had a mechanical gauge setup using AutoMeter's earlier PN 5280 high pressure isolator, and my isolator failed, allowing fuel into the lines in the compartment. AutoMeter eventually recalled the 5280 isolator, and offered me $$ credit toward an electronic gauge, which I immediately purchased. I personally would NEVER put a mechanical fuel gauge inside the passenger compartment, based on my experience.

The electric gauges are really nice, that's pretty much the way to go. If you want to see the actual fuel pressure, you need to get the expensive full sweep one.
