Dry nitrous kit (maf style)

Back a few years ago I ran basically an LS1 type kit on my LT1. It consisted of 10 lb bottle in the spare tire well, 14 ft nitrous line, one powershot solenoid and a single nozzle spraying into the maf meter with a #37 jet. We kept a close monitor on the wideband and read my plugs constantly and never had one single issue in 3 years of bi-weekly use. The car picked up 7 solid tenths in the 1/8th with it and really was hidden so people were blown away by the "just motor" comments I gave them....

My question to Injuneer , Ray or anyone else with an educated opinion would be... Why does many people speak so badly of the dry kits?
I never had one problem, but of course I didnt get greedy and push the jetting upward either.

Im really thinking of putting one of these type kits on my Stang to try it. If you go to compucars website and see the bottle in the bag kit, that is very similar to mine. Only thing was mine had switches hardwired in. No cigarette lighter thingy.

Thanks for any comments
Mike

Dry kits for the LT1 will normally NOT spray through the MAF, as the PCM cannot consistantly compensate accurately enough for the fuel enrichment....the LS1 and newer PCMs work very well with dry shots.

LT1 kits usually bump fuel pressure and spray behind the MAF, to alleviate this concern.

Dry shots are very popular with the Ford crowd but they use the same method for fuel enrichment. The kits come with an FMU that will pull vacuum on the regulator to bump fuel pressure when the kit activates.

We have kits from ZEX and NOS for the 5.0's

I've seen posts by a few people who have used moderate shots through the MAF on an LT1, and didn't have any problems. NOS claimed that it wasn't possible on the LT1 PCM, but was possible on the LS1 because of the faster processing speeds. I don't know if that's true or not.

There's always an element of uncertainty with the MAF.... you are changing the specific heat of the air/nitrous mixture which affects the heat loss from the wire, and any direct impingement on the hot-wire will completely upset the sensor calibration, since the heat of vaporization is affecting heat loss through the wire. All of those alterations to meter calibration may just happen to combine in a way to make it run rich enough on the spray.

In essence, if it works for you on the LT1, you're not the first person I heard that from. I never tried it, because I ran the NOS-5176 kit. What kind of A/F ratios were you seeing?

Thanks guys,

I have learned over the years that there are two types of "dry" kits. One like Ray mentioned for using the vacuum tee boosting pressure and the other ...kinda like the compucar bottle in a bag kit that sprays only one jet and one solenoid through the maf sensor.

Injuneer,
My AFR was 11.8 if I remember correctly. It has been a few years ago, but never had the slightest problem out of spraying through the sensor. My plugs were checked on pit road after the runs and were great.

I dont have any wide band monitoring for the Stang and am really wanting to be re-assured that it will work. I am going to search stangnet and see what I can find before even considering it.
Just doing my homework and knew you guys would shoot me straight.
