It is always suggested to run a window switch on any nitrous kit.

They are used to prevent activation at low RPM and to shut the kit off before the rev limiter. This greatly reduces your chances of problems.

If the transmission wouldn't shift under load, it sounds like more of a transmission issue.

It was probably putting to much strain on the trans trying to pull the hp. I dont think its a good idea to spray through the shifts anyway which is why i have the window switch shut the spray down right before it hits the next gear.

it all depends on the setup....if it is a DD that is willing to make ET compromises to prolong tanny life, than yes you can shut the kit off before the shift. This does reduce a little stress on transmission internals, but the rpms have allready dropped back into the "on" window before the shift is completed.

If it is a weekend warrior/race car you want to spray through the shift. I have my on point set to 3K and off at 6.8k. Rev limiter is 7k and launch RPM is 4K+ with convertor flash. My kit is spraying before the car moves and doesn't shut off until I let off the gas. This is with a 700r4 tranny with just a few internal mods

sorry...maybe I should have pointed out, how I have gone through the transmissions.

Stock the car had a T56. This was on a H/C/150shot combo ran 12.0 @ 120+ (2.0 60') But did break a Spec stg3 clutch in half on a 1-2 powershift.
This combo had a road race suspension setup and was useless at the strip.

I converted to a drag suspension and a 700r4 auto with a 2800 stall. Also was running a 396cid making 422/447 NA and 566/604 on a 150 shot. (HP #'s are from the T56) First tranny died in 2 weeks due to converter failure.....rebuilt the tranny and 2 weeks later the converter failed again. Turns out the flex plate was bent

New tranny has everything that can be done to the 700 and a billet 32-3500 stall. Have had no issues out of this one in 2 years. But we will see how it likes 700+whp .
