Are you thinking about running stock eliminator? If so, I'd say do it! Bracket racing is more fun than some people think

Thanks guys, actually I'm trying to find someone who runs a 'Stock" class car and will tell me how in the world they run the times they do given the rules they must go by. If you read the rule book you'll see what I mean. Class index for C/SA which most of our 4th gens run is 11.70 HOW do they do that??

Ask GUMP, the person who replied to your post above, I believe he runs a Stock Eliminator LT1 car, could be wrong. Is that you Darren A.?

Thats Me!!

I currently run a 1998 Firebird (was originally a 1995) in D/SA. I am also building a 1999 Camaro to run Stock at the IHRA finals at Rockingham in the Fall.

How do these guys run so fast in stock? Very careful attn to every detail in the whole car no matter how small it may seem. Can't wait to try my hand at it next weekend.
And there's nothing wrong with running just brackets either. Many excellent drivers honed their skills in ET racing.
Darren, are you heading up to Epping next weekend?

I'm going wide open at the Camaro at the moment. I'll run a couple of bracket races for the next while with Gump, but my big focus is on Rockingham.

Actually there are no real secrets to running Stock Eliminator. I have posted a lot of the specifics of my Firebird on here a few times. More often I answer peoples E-mails.
To run D/SA in an LT-1 car race weight is 3257 lbs.
I normally shift at 6200, but can shift up around 7200, which is worth about 2 mph. I run a Lunati WJ grind (256/266 @ .050).
The transmissions that I run are TH-350's with a lot of special parts (mostly light weight and friction reducing). My converter stalls at about 3200 rpm on the brakes.
The rear is a 12-bolt with spool and 4.88 gears.
To build a good Stocker you must start by taking your car down to the bare shell. A lot of attention to detail should be taken with each component that is returned. It is the little things that make the true difference.
Every thousanth counts!

I checked out those sites I'm going to start asking q's so you better be prepared to get your ear bent Gump!!! I found a pic of Emmons Firebird for sale. That's wild. I read all the mods guys do to their LT1s and still not many run like the stockers do! All that on stock heads and only .050 overbore. Or is it .030? I forget.Plus retaining stock interior and a rollcage. I Love it!!!
