Arming Switch question....

I'm currently in the process of having an NX kit installed on my '95 Z28. The only activation switches I have is the arming switch, and a WOT switch. However, I have no intention of spraying the nitrous in first gear as I have stock suspension/tires/rear-end (different gears though) and wouldn't have traction in 1st (and if I did I'm sure my rear-end would blow).

So, can I use the "arming" switch as an activation switch to start spraying in second gear since I'll have it at WOT in first and don't want to start spraying until 2nd? I'm unfamiliar with the workings of the system, so I don't know if that main arming switch can be used as an activation switch, or if that would result in any problems. To clarify, I'm asking if I can floor it through first, then "arm" the system in 2nd while I'm at WOT to have the nitrous start spraying.

So, can I do this, or should I aquire yet another "activation" switch or button to use when I want to start spraying in 2nd gear? (so the process would be arm the system, floor it through first, flip another switch/press button in 2nd).

Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance for the help.

John

I have an "arm switch" that has to be activated to allow the system to operate at all. And, that switch also turns on the second fuel pump. I rely on a WOT switch and a window switch to actually spray, because I spray out of the hole...

If you want to spray only in second gear, you would logically use a master "arm" switch to enable the system, and then use a pushbutton on the shifter **** to activate the juice when you got the urge....

You shouldn't overlook a window switch, to prevent the system from activating at too low an RPM, and to shut the system off before you reach the stock rev limiter, which cuts fuel.

If you are worried about traction in 1st gear, consider a progressive controller to bring the juice in at a controlled rate. Or even a 2-stage system that will let you spray 1/3 - 1/2 of the hit in 1st gear, and then spray 100% in second.

you problay have trouble hooking up on street tires NA right? Let me ask you this do you floor it in 1st? what if you just put it 95% Floored and have the system activated then when you get into 2nd floor it and a window switch would be nice too that way if you missed a shift.that is what I do on street tires but I have an A4.

I have an A4 also. I've thought of trying the whole throttle control thing, but that's just no fun . I have a hard time hooking on street tires to begin with, but I usually have it floored by the top of first and have it hooked.

I'd like to get a window switch for it, and a second activation button for my shift handle, but for this weekend I guess I'll have to use throttle control or not run it off the line. Hell, I've got to get used to the extra power first, so I don't think I'll be doing anything other than testing on deserted roads if I even get a chance to do that.

Maybe somebody can answer this for me:

If I have my car floored, and I throw the master "arming" switch while the WOT switch is activated, what would happen? Would that have the potential to damage things?

If that's the only means you have of activating the system (the WOT switch) then the nitrous would start'a'shootin' As mentioned before, I would seriously look into getting a window switch. That way if you were WOT and threw the arming switch, the nitrous wouldn't spray until you were between your set window of operation. Mallory's Hyfire VI CD (part #685) is an ignition box with a built in two-step rev-limiter and window switch along with a few other goodies. $220 but well worth the money when you consider most window switches alone cost over $100.
