Angry Ok guys, help me trouble shoot this Wench

Ok, heres the deal. Prior to my pulling the engine the second time, the belt system worked fine. Went to Detroit, and almost back to GR and had no problems.

Fast forward to 3 days ago. Get the car all back together and start the 8 mile drive from the garage to my home garage. On the way I decide to try and launch it. No big deal, but not 45 seconds later I get a noise under hood. Turns out to be the belt is shredding. Figure it is a old belt, buy another the next day. Shred that one in under 30 minutes.

Ok, we have a problem. I pull the tensioner and Helicoil the holes because I had a problem with them tightening up. That was today, took it for a ride. Stop to check the belt and the damn thing is walking off again. Waited for the wife to bring me some tools and I get it back to where it needs to be. Start the car, and the thing IMMEDIATLY walks again. Not off, just starting. So I nurse it home. I am thinking either tensioner is going, or the crank pully has a slight wobble in it. But I dont understand why it worked before I pulled it the second time, and now it isnt working worth a crap. Any ideas????

I'm to the point of just buying crap and trying to find it, but that can get so damn expensive.....wife might not like that idea.

Check the hub to timing cover lip seal for proper position, there should be no "witness mark" visibile from where the seal would normaly reside. if you see it the ballancer hub is not seated all the way. Next check the pulley/ballancer to hub bolts. are they torqued proper? is the flange on the pully/bal sitting flush on the hub flange?
This is my guess

if the crank pulley was bent you'd see it. How far did you pull the motor down for the second go round? did you even take the pulley off?

Do the pullies appear to be lined up when viewed from the side?

Check everything...alternator, ps pump, tensioner, a/c compressor. make sure they are all tight and correctly mounted. I know it sounds like simple stuff, but if you get a washer or spacer in the wrong place and off it goes...

Well, I checked the crank hub, appears to be flush mounted and it is torqued to specs. I can line everything up straight as a arrow on the pulleys and as soon as it starts the power steering pulley will walk the belt off about a 1/4 inch. And yes, I do see a wobble in the crank pulley that was not there before. I did remove it the seond time too...use the puller as per directions. Thanks for the ideas guys....I am using them all....

Ok...ok...
What was your install method?
Please tell me you used a install tool and not a hammer.

I dropped my balancer back in 95 and it bent the factory cast hub! I had to replace it!

Didnt need a hammer....mine fit up nice, and using the bolts pulled in the final half inch. Rotating the bolts as you would install a tire. Did I do a NoNo? I'm beginning to think it is bent somehow. Didnt drop it, but it definetly has a wobble.

Q, I thought that I noticed that the Balancer had a slight wobble to it. Perhaps I was correct??

Don't throw a car cover over it just yet, thats a relatively easy fix.

You might have a have a pulley with one of the grooves bent or cracked. that would chew belts up pretty good. hey it's worth a shot.
