Fuel pump
Fuel pump
Been tuning the car for the past few
weeks. I make a couple of tune changes to
the program and get a no start condition.
I load different known running tunes. Same condition.
Acts like no fuel no spark.
The wideband stays lean thru all the tests.
Check the ignition no problems.
Check power at injectors, fuses, connections etc.
Regulator line is dry no fuel present.
No problem found.
I can hear the fuel pump coming on.
I checked the pressure , it usually will go up to 45-48
psi before dropping to 0. Now it goes to 3 psi before dropping
to zero.
My electrical connections are pristine.
I don't believe this condition has any thing to do with my tuning
or is computer related.
The pump is a 340 Walbro with a Casper harness probably 3 years old.
My questions are :
Is it common for a pump to just crap out?
Is there anything else I should be checking before I swap
out the pump?
Thanks
Kevin

yeah DEFINATLY check to make sure the pc is comanding the pump on. test at the gray wire (not sure if the casper harness changes the color or keeps them the same as stock?) AT the pump. you should get 12 volts for 2 seconds when you first turn the key on. then watch the gauge drop right back down to zero. are you sure the fuse's arent blown in the casper harness? what about the fuel pump relay/fuse in the stock location? its not typical for them to crap out working then nothing at all. but it does happen all the time. Id say more common to have too low pressure to start the car on. example 15lbs. my guess is there's a loose connection/terminal in your harness somewhere. and its probably in the casper harness. you'd better cross your fingers thats what it is too.
see that there arent any terminals pulled out the back side of the relay in the back near the stock harness breakout connecter. seen that before.
good luck dude.
oh yeah, how did the purple people eater do last year at the drag strip? I cant remember you ever telling how the performance is so far?

oh, also, you mentioned that the fuel used to go to 45psi, then drop to zero. its not supposed to do that dude. it shoudl hold steady after the initial pressurizing. if it has always dropped to zero after you turn the key on, even if it did momentarily get to 45psi, the pump is prolly bad. there is an internal check valve that is supposed to hold press. on the ouput side of the pump. prolly not, but your regulator could be bad still. if its stuck open, the fuel will just bypass it alltogether and go right back into the tank through the return side.
