Re: yep im in default mode

It's already in "Drivetrain" and got zero responses. Maybe "Computer..... " will work better. How about I just move this thread, because when you start a new thread in another forum, no one will have the info that has already been posted here.

Appears its definitely not an "engine" problem.

Re: yep im in default mode

I asked about scanners in computer, I'm looking for a good scanner or should I just get the cable from aldl, and duely noted.
With all the different "things" the car does, I think it would just be better to have something I can plug in, and see what's going on. You and shoebox have said it yourselves, "if you plan to own one of these cars for a while, it makes sense to have a good scanner". And also that you can't really work on these cars, especially in complex situations without a scanner, or you play parts roulette.
I'm tired of throwing darts in the dark, so I'm looking to buy one. Don't want to throw 3500 down, only the wife gets to do that lol, or I'd get a tech2. An auto Xray 2500 would even work pretty well, but I'm leaning towards the aldl cable, the software they provide and the software I can get here both seem to ne infinitely better than a code regurgitater.

The aldlcable.com link goes to a cable that costs $60. There is no software included. For the software, you go to FreeScan (free), TTS DataMater (free download, 20 free uses) or EFILiveV4 (costs $$$).

Re: yep im in default mode

It does come with software now, on a cd-rom. Ordered the aldl cable today online. Another person suggested akm, but why in the world are they so much higher in price?? It doesn't appear to be superior in quality, is it able to transfer data streams faster? I just don't see the reason

Re: yep im in default mode

Well what do ya know!!!!! I borrowed a pcm from a fella here on the forum(u know who u are and thank you so much) and put it in my car expecting nothing to change and what do ya know, the car runs b etter than ever. Isn't having a single problem, idles perfectly, not having a single issue that it was having before. No codes, no nothing. Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it. So this was an odd ball as far as the pcm goes I guess. Got another one on order from mad, again thanx a bunch.

Re: yep im in default mode

So according to a tech @ gm, funny where was he when the car was there to be diagnosed, the first sign of a bad pcm is when the pcm communicates but then it just disappears to the scanner. News somebody else might be able to use if they start having the same symptoms. It acts like the pcm just shorts out or something.
