No lower part = wrong thermostat.

thats mostlikely the reason you han no heat, not because of the t-stat

why would hypertech thermo not have the lower part ? It is the one hypertech said to get in the hypertech box "1008". autozone also lists this one for the lt1. just more bs from hypertech????

Does it look like the one Shoebox has in the photo, which is the Hypertech 1008? If not, its not the 1008. Doesn't matter what box someone put it in, its not the right one.

nope, I saw this sight after I bought the mr gasket, so I bought a hypertech and it looked the same as a sb thermostat. no bottom. so does anyone have a hypertech with the bottom?

just to update and clarify, i ended up installing a new thermo stat but the stock 180 one. It ended up being a clogged heater core. Took off the inlet and outlet hose and flushed it with my garden hose. Boy did a lot of gunk come out, but now my heat is very very hot, thanks guys.

I wonder if the gas mileage will be different between the 160 and 180.

I noticed this on a Plymouth Duster I drove in the 80s, I would run a 195 in the winter and when I switched to a cooler one in the spring the gas mileage would drop. I drove that car a lot and watched it like a hawk the affect on gas mileage was immediately noticable after the thermostat switch so it wasn't the summer/winter air temperature difference.

Your loosing thermal efficiency with a cooler stat. Ideally for mileage, you want higher compression/more heat. So runnin a lower temp stat, the heads will be colder, and more energy is lost through heat transfer.

Im suprised that it was actually noticable though.

yea when i was talking about it to my friend at napa autoparts while i was getting something, the guy behind the counter chimed in and started telling me how awful it was to run a low temp stat because it would be "tricking" my computer and start eating gas like crazy and eventually ruin my car. But it seems like everyone thats runs them here has absolutely no problem.

Heat aids economy, but is the enemy of performance. Heat contributes to detonation and all kinds of other nasties at high compression high rpm conditions, particularly on pump gas.

there is your first mistake, DO NOT ever listen to the parts guy who knows absolutely nothing about what he is blabbing. and most of us are tuned for a lower temp stat
