worn posi clutches???

How much can worn posi clutches affect the acceleration of a vehicle?

I know that worn clutches can affect the "one wheel peel" effect, but assuming good traction on both wheels, can they slow the general acceleration as well?

If the car isn't spinning then the posi isn't in effect, and both wheels are turning at the same speed,so that means no it doesn't hurt acceleration when the posi is going out only traction..

You have an Auburn posi. They don't have clutches. Here's their site, maybe it'll give you an answer.

Auburns use a cone style,it uses 2 cones on each side that push into each other to cause the posi..

Correct, all LT1 F-bodys.

If I have no clutches in the posi, then why do I get one wheel peel?

It could be that the cone clutches are worn out or damaged. They are not clutches in the typical sense, that is, a number of flat discs that engage causing power to go to both wheels, like in an Eaton differential. In an Auburn, when the cones are shot, you have to get a new unit, as they are not rebuildable.

The cone style diffs suck major sack. I went thru a few before I finally got a diff out of a newer f-bod.

It has proven strong enough for many 11 second and 1.6 60 blasts and is rebuilable. I bought it from SLP as a take off for $100.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, every time I have called SLP for a take-off Zexel-Torsen for the last two months, they've been backordered with no ETA..

I've got my 3.42s and a different posi going in as we speak, so if that posi wears out, I'll be buying an Eaton most likely, or I'll say screw it and buy a 12-bolt.

There was a guy selling a zexel take-off that he bought from SLP for $100 recently. Do a search, he might not have sold it yet.

Depending on how much power you plan on making down the road, you might not need a 12 bolt.
