Won't Start

My 94 Z28 has been sitting in the garage for a couple of years without being started. I used to at least start it up every so often and let it run long enough to get warm. But I haven't done that in a couple of years.

So, I got the idea the other day to start it up. After charging the battery, I attempted to start it. It cranks but will not start and I can't hear the fuel pump running. Since I can't hear it running when I turn on the key, I'm assuming it's causing the problem.

How do I troubleshoot this to determine if the pump is faulty or if it's something else? I would rather not replace the pump until I know it's bad. Can I check the voltage somewhere without having to get access to the pump?

Check the fuel pressuire at the fuel rail. Also, if the fuel in the tank has been there that long,
it should to be drained and replaced.

Re: Won't Start

Mine sat for 7 years. Did head gasket and valve job. Just put it back together, new fuel pump, fuel filter, drained tank, cleaned each injector carb cleaner and air.
I forgot to clean the line from the fuel filter up to the fuel rail.So when I fired it off all that varnish went into the fuel rail and injectors.
Had varnish smell, out of test port on rails, correct pressure on fuel rail 47lbs.Would start on starting fluid, then die.
Cleaned the rail and injectors again. Stars fine now. Hope this helps.

Re: Won't Start

You can test the fuel pump using the fuel pump prime connector near the PCM. That bypasses the PCM/security interlock, and the fuel pump relay.
