Winter project? Need ideas!
Winter project? Need ideas!
Hey guys! I recently purchased a 95 TA, and could NOT be happier ! I LOVE hte LT1
. But I have a couple problems.
One is, that it is hard to start when its cold. It cranks for 4-6 seconds to start, when its warm, its like 1-2 seconds. Fuel pressure leak? eh?
Second is the big one. Whenever I'm idling (M6) it makes a noise, when I push in the clutch, it stops. The haynes manaul says a couple things, including a worn input shaft or damanged main drive gear bearing? I'm going to winter the car in a rented garage, should I go ahead and take it out and have it rebuilt? I'm going to change the fluid in it in a week or two to see if thats helps first , of course
Thanks guys!

The T56 seems prone to rattle the input shaft at idle. Mine did it almost from the time the car was new. Alternatively, might be a worn throwout bearing. Is it a "rattle" and how bad is it?
Hard start could be caused by weak check valve in the fuel pump or faulty fuel pressure regulator allowing the pressure to bleed down. Also might be leaky injectors flooding it.

About the idle noise, it could be two things. If you think its the stock clutch, its most likely the throwout bearing. If you think its an aftermarket clutch, its most likely the normal neutral rattle assoiciated with non-predampened aftermarket discs. If you are going to replace the TO bearing, you might as well replace the whole clutch set while your at it. Might want to try to get ahold of the original owner/dealer and see if its an aftermarket or stock clutch, because that will decide the direction to take. My stock clutch was super quiet, but when I installed my McLeod, its noisy and I get vibrations. HTH
