Question will v6 guages work on a v8?

i am in the process of swapping an lt1 in replace of my 3.8......
are the z28 guages absolutely necessary? or can i just leave my 3.8 guages in.? also, how hard would it be to switch guages?

Yes, you are going to need the gauges.

The reason you need the gauges is because you need to use the LT1 PCM. I am sure the gauges will work....they will just read wrong.

Not only will you speedo be off, but what about oil pressure? That might be different for LT1 than from the 3.8s.

I don't think gauge swapping is that hard; ask around in V6 Tech, a few guys have swapped their V6s for V8s

Hold on... the only problem will be the tach.

The oil pressure, coolant temp, fuel level and voltmeter are connected directly to the source sensor, not through the PCM. The speedo will interface fine... the PCM takes care of things.

Only the tach will mismatch... its expecting 6 pulses per engine rev, and its going to see 8 pulses..... will read 33% too high.

I would think that getting a V8 155mph cluster would be worth it though, just to get the 155mph speedo...... .

From the link you gave:

Gauges : Required for the tachometer to read accurately. The tachometer will be approx 20% off without changing to V8 gauges. All the other gauges will function.

EDIT:
whoops, I misread your post. I thought you said "I DON'T know about that." as if you were disagreeing. My mistake.
