I eventually want to get a set of LTs, but I wanna know if I should save myself the extra money. I know they help with heat in the engine bay, but does it do anything else?

I believe that it also helps keep them from rusting. Jet-Hot warantees them when they coat them brand new from rust through.

Preventing rust is the other big reason. Some of the LT's like the Hookers are not stainless and will rust without the ceramic coating. I got SLP's which are stainless and I didn't get them coated and they started to rust too. It's just surface rust but it makes them look crappy, I will probably end up pulling them out and getting them jet hot coated eventually.

Advantages of ceramic coatings:

-Keeps exhaust gas temps higher, increasing velocity and scavenging. This nets up to 3% extra HP, according to Jet-Hot.

-Reduces corrosion

-Reduces stress cracking from temp cycling and vibrations.

-Reduces under hood temps.

-Looks good.....

just an FYI
Ceramic coating does help prevent rust, but if you live in the north and drive in the snow at all you may have problems. My coated MACs didn't last 2 years without major rust issues.

I have to take them off and get them recoated this spring

My hooker ceramic coating only lasted a few months before rusting through.

I have heard of some people having problems by not getting the coated ones. One example is plug wires melting causing arching. There are numerous other parts near there that will prematurely fail with excess heat. One of these things goes wrong and you will end up paying over that to fix it even the plug wires. It will be worth it in the end.

Well there is a simple solution for everyone.

Wrap them

Yes they still rust but they will keep the bay temps down significatly more than coatings will and you don't have to look at ugly headers.

coated headers will aslo be easier to sell when you do get the LT's.

Yes, but then you will have to look at ugly header wrap instead
