Wierd problem
Wierd problem
So I had an oil leak coming from my timing chain cover (pretty bad leak) and I decided to just replace all of the seals and the gasket. Since I was there I decided to change the oil pan gasket to. Since I had to break the rusted bolts on the y-pipe I decided to go ahead and put on my brand new Mac performance jet hot coated headers with the ovc taylor spiro wires. After all of this the car sounded great. Then it shut off while I was driving. The ignition coil wire had backed off. When I went to start the car again the starter engaged then made a grinding noise like the car was already running. I turned off the ignition and pulled key out but the motor kept trying to turn over, not the starter just the belt driven accessories. It only does this after it warms up. What would cause this problem? PS I had to install a new starter because the old one had a crack in it. Sorry about the long post
Re: Wierd problem
wait, the engine''diesed" i.e.,ran after the ingition was shut off?
No, the starter disengaged but the motor kept turning even after the ignition was off and the key removed. The car never started.

Re: Wierd problem
most times the starter will need a shim because of the reman process takes some metal off the flange and a shim will space the starter where it should be.
Are you talking about the engine or the starter motor? "Dieseling" is when the motor is turned off but the combustion chamber is hot enough to continue burning fuel resulting in a very erratic and slow lopping idle. This is usually caused by a stuck butterfly on the carb of an engine but seeing as you have the fuel injection I don't see how its possible.
please elaborate or provide a video of this phenomenon so we may better help you.
