Why does a manual fan switch work??

I was just thinking as I was looking over the how-to on the manual fan switch and how does it cool the engine much??

If the water pumps not going I cant see how it cools anything more then whats in the rad, and I dont see how that would cool the engine at all.

When I'm at the track my temps are way up almost at the red line, and I only start my car when i drive up to the line and then turn it off after I'm done my run and get back into line. but if my cars off how does it cool? and if I keep my car on... well the fans are already running cause its so hot...???

someone please explain how a manual fan switch works without an electric water pump.

your car has 2 cooling fans, they only run when the car is on and over a certain temp. With a fan switch, you can run both of them however long you want, with the car not running to cool off the engine/radiator before a run.

You're right, the fans cool what is in the radiator. It still helps quite a bit without an electric water pump, because this cooler water is mixed in when you start your engine back up. Makes for shorter cool-down times between runs, and really helps in those late rounds of eliminations where you're running every 10 minutes.

If your car is up near the red when you run, your fans are not working or not set right. I can leave mine idling all day long, and it will not get over 185. All the way down the track and down the return road, same thing, never gets over 185.

I dont know why exactly it works, all i know is that it cools the car, and it can be done for under 10 bucks, when SLP sells it for 70. I like having it, for traffic and what not.

It works very well in mine and I have Hooker Lt's. I simplified mine for just one speed but need to hook up the low speed to so I dont have the high fan running all the time. If I let my car sit it will not kick the fans on until almost redline just like you said and that is a pain in the butt at the track. I have stock waterpump and stock themorstat and when I flip the switch to just the one high fan the temp will never go above 180 even if it is 100 degrees out. The best cheap mod I have done.
