Who Wants a MSD Replacement for the Opticrap?
Evidently, MSD doesn't believe the buyer at Summit Racing or the people on this board that there are people who want them to produce this product. I have sent copies of this thread to them on several occasions, and for the past two years I've been hearing "we're looking into it".
I think what they mean to say is "stop calling, we don't care". I would recommend purchasing the dynotech piece at this point. I have no personal experience with it, but I think we'll all be sh#tting in our Depends before they make a decision. I truly am sorry, and I honestly believed that if Summit Racing told MSD that we want to buy this product, they would listen.
I can't believe that they produce a distributor for the Flat Head Ford, but refuse to even return a phone call about the LT1.
I will continue to persue other alternatives. Perhaps it is time to talk to Accel or Mallory and see if they want to pick up ball and run with it.
I'll keep ya posted on what I find. Thanks for the interest, and please continue.

I would keep pushing them for it. It is like that movie Shawshank Redemtion when he keeps sending letters to the state until they give him some money and books then he says that he will send 2 letters everyday until they end up giving him what he wants.
the simple fact remains... THERE IS NO DEMAND!
there are what 200 replies to this thread and a lot of them are from the same people so conservatively there are about 150 people interested.
MSD realizes that what needs to be done is not a new improved opti but one that is completely different from the GM unit and the Dynatech. this would mean the price would not be appealing to 99% of everyone who owns an LT1. the Dynatech is basically an improved opti and its $600 so lets say MSD devised a way to get an 8 coil setup to work with the stock PCM.. that would be in the $1000 range easy.
i really dont see what the big deal is anyway. most optis last 60,000 miles easy. replace it once at a cost of $200 or so if you do it yourself and be done with it. and there again... only those serious about LT1s would purchase an MSD distributor and then i doubt half of them are competant enough to install it themselfs so they have a shop do it for them. i am just being a realist here guys... either go opti or go LS1.
