Without that signal, the PCM can not fire the injectors and shuts down the fuel system.

Go to the MSD website and look at their new "CPC" ignition system... possible to run 8 direct fire coils, with a standalone timing computer. Problem is, the CPC system needs a crank and cam position signal. It gets this by replacing a conventional distributor with a "plug"... essentially a replacement for the shaft of the original distributor with a cam postion sensor in it. What you need to convince MSD to do is to make a "plug" for the LT1 that can be inserted through a hole drilled in the back of the intake, and would have to provide a cam sensor signal that could be translated into the low res pulse for the Opti.... something I don't think would be that hard to do.

An 8 coil ignition would be much better. But ANYTHING to ditch the opti-crap. I'm game.

as long as you dont...

1. powerwash your motor
2. allow coolant to leak on the opti

you will have little to no problems with it.

now if you still convienced the opti is a POS for whatever reason then there is a few $700 options out there to take care of it.

Count Me in if you dont have to spend over 500 bucks on it and it does work Better than stock and is (more reliable)....

Anything other than that would be kinda useless in my opinion, especially since you can replace vented opti for under 200 bucks each.

My 2 cents,
Claude

At $600-$700, I think there is a reason for MSD to get involved. If just one guy (Bob with the LTCC) and a small company like Dynatech can come up with alternatives, why can't a large national company like MSD with all its resources and ignition exprience come out with a more cost effective option. Anyone who says there is not a demand for this needs to wake up. There are countless owners of Camaros/Firebirds, Impalas, Corvetts, Street Rods, S-10s, and anything else you can squeeze an LT1 into, out there that do not want to spend $600 on a distributor. Now don't get me wrong, I am glad there are people out there like Bob and Dynotech giving us alternatives, but $600 for a distributor

This shouldn't have to be so hard.

I have two 95 Z's in the household, and would GLADLY pay 450 for something that won't take a dump all the time with some mods.

Something has to be done. There is such a HUGE following for an opti replacement. I hate my opti and I like reassurance that my car is as solid as it can be. build a replacement, this is a gold mine.

hell yeah why not, they build ignition systems for most all the old muscle why not an engine one step below the LS1...only makes sense, I think the market would be great with all the OPTI problems out there.
