I am not one of them. Probably $50-60K over six years (not including ~$25K for the car itself).

Let see.

Engine (2 major and two minor rebuilds) ~$20K
Heads $3K
Roll cage (custom) $3K
Rear end/driveshafts $3K
Clutches $2K
Exhaust $3K
Superchargers and realted stuff $6K
Water injection $1K
Fuel system (inc SF, injectors, etc.) $2K
Wheels/Tires $3K
Misc $5K
Total ~ $50+K (I am sure I am leaving stuff out)

I have gotten $2-3K back selling stuff I don't use anymore.

Yikes

I'll bet even Jordan (the King of going fast on a budget) has spent a fair bit of change! A production based car will never run near the 4's and will more then $100K to hit the 8's. Even a pure race car isn't going to be anywhere near the 4's for $100K. My friend runs a blown alcohol Hemi tube frame "altered" and runs in the 6's @ ~220mph. He does all his own work, buys used parts when possible, etc. I'd guess he's close to $75K in his car.

Chassis $30K
Hemi $20K
Transmission $5k
Clutch/bellhousing, etc. $2K
Blower, etc. $5K
Tires/Wheels $3K
Misc (fuel system, chute, etc.) $5K
Total is at least $70K

Of course, this doesn't include what I costs to run (at least five hundred per weekend) plus a trailer/transporter, etc. I am sure I am missing stuff, but you get the idea. If you needed to pay someone to build the thing you could hit $100K pretty easily.

Last year the car dynoed at 733rwhp. For the last race of the year I put in bigger nitrous and fuel jets without any dyno time, so it was likely ~775rwhp. This may seem kinda foolish, but the motor was coming out for a rebuild anyway! Ran 10.66 @ 136mph, which isn't bad for a 4,000+lb car that was driven to the track with the slicks in the back seat (actually, one was riding shotgun).

Next year: more boost, more N2O, more speed, more $$$

Each increment in speed/power costs more than the one preceeding. That's the "law of diminshing returns".

I understand you get my point. Trailer alone is 100K .

Give me $100K and I will tear my car up and have a bracket car for a reliable 8 sec. run on the strip.

Give me another $70-$85K I could have a nice fiberglass body with the coolest graphic paint job for the strip.

I have spent near $30K for mods alone. I am still not where I want to be for bracket racing.

What the hell, here goes

Radio and install - 300
tint - 150
air filter - 10
tranny mount - 30

and you know, she runs like she was stock.
Future plans hold a CAI and maybe exhaust, stock power is enough for me.

I know I haven't spent the most and am not into 6 figures but I probably rank right up there for the guys who have the most parts "not yet installed"... LOL!

Vortech supercharger
2 Vortech aftercoolers
2 Brad Brand Vortech intake tubes
396 almost done... all forged
383 short block, have parts, need to put together... all forged
Wolfe roll bar
2 fuel pumps (one for each car)
Bilstein shocks
Eibach springs
Air bags
Lower control arms
Mufflex 4" exhaust
AS&M monoblade
Speed Pro FAST system
IRS torque arm
Smart Spark
Ceramic coated Hooker long tubes
Meziere HD water pump
Over the top plug wire kit
Canton oil pan
Aftermarket speakers and amps
2 McLeod street twins
1 4L60E to T56 conversion kit
Complete tubular front suspension
LS1 brake conversion kit
Sequential tail light kit
Accel 300+

Off the top of my head, those are some of the bigger things I need to get installed. I don't even want to think about how much I have invested in parts waiting to go on that I'm currently getting no enjoyment out of. Oh well, the garage is almost done and I hope that in a month or so I'll start widdling away at that list. LOL!

It costs a lot to go FAST
Try and research everything that you do, plan ahead to where you eventually want to go so that you don't have to do things twice.
I know that there are several people that have spent considerably more then me and haven't gone as fast.

It also helps that I've be very fortunate and been able to get substantial amounts of help with suspension, superchargers, wheels etc that have kept my expenses down

On another note, parts I actually have to pay for LOL
I just did a set on headers for my new motor
3K YIKES!
