Mindgame, it is possible to get a single plane under these hoods w/o cutting the cowl or getting a cowl hood. This is a Precision elbow milled down 3/4" from the base. Unfortunately, its not in my possesion anymore .

I was going to run a mustang style TB as Jason is. Its a smooth setup forsure.

Thanks for the info Ryan.

So who all makes the elbow adaptors? I'm aware of Wilson, Bennett and now Precision but what are the other options?

A friend and I are looking to put together a 353 ci solid roller engine hopefully before the summer is over. Looking at a converted single plane intake, 4-bbl throttle body (better drivability IMO) and something along these lines for the inlet....

The question is height. With the 4-bbl throttle body route, you have the TB and then the height of this "inlet". That versus the height of an elbow. Does anyone list heights or dimensions for these cast elbows? Just thinking out loud here but if anyone has done the measurements, I'd appreciate any feedback.

I had measured the dimensions along with the underhood dimensions, but I can't seem to find my numbers anywhere. IMO, an elbow would be a little easier to use because you don't have to worry about the height of the 4-bbl and the air ducting. Some 4" mandrel bends from the local diesel shop and you have your CAI.

"Vipreatr" (not Montalvo ) might be able to chime in on dimensions as he owns that intake now. The other bonus of that elbow is that you can mill it down like I mentioned. Chris Zikora performed the conversion of that manifold (Znines or Z8 is his Cz28 handle). I am sure he could answer some of our questions.

I am sticking with the stock intake for this build. Something more exciting next time for sure . Another thing to keep in mind which I've never really looked into is how much of the frame of the hood you can trim. Maybe you can get another inch after a few minutes with the dremel. Really gotta get creative...makes it fun .

Thanks again Ryan.

Judging by your Ozarka bottle (I'm too poor for Ozarka so used a Sam's Club 16.9 oz bottle for reference) it looks like the top of that elbow is about 8" above the end rails of the intake.

Found out today that that inlet I linked in the other response, is 4" tall. Add that to a 2.25" tall throttle body and add in the carb pad height and you're somewhere in the neighborhood of 11.5".

Know of anyone running the Harwood cowl-type hood? What kind of clearance does that add I wonder? Guess I will call them tomorrow to quench some curiousity.

Yep, the elbow might just be the ticket.....

Thanks Mindgame!

I'm not sure if I can take enough off the base of the elbow to get it under the cowl. I will go ahead and trim the hood and cowl if I have to. If it looks too tacky I will have to get a new hood, but I think I can make it discrete (the whole idea of keeping the stock hood).

btw...did I mention you have the most pimp LT1 ever built, IMO ?

I'll get some measurements in comparison to a stock LT1 intake by tonight for you guys. Remember that the elbow and intake have been milled down for extra clearance though.
