Thumbs up Who actually likes their LT1?

I'm tired of all the posts were people want to jump ship first chance they get because the LT1 is so crappy. My LT1 is my toy/daily sorta driver, I dont plan to get rid of it. LS1s just dont apeal to me, esp after Thunder Shoot Out. I know mines will never go 8.5s, I dont have that kind of cash. But I see and talk to guys like Joe Overton, Big Rik, Frank B, Steve Stumpf, Tim, and Ken Lowrance, those guys know what their doing. I'm just going to keep following their lead, my car in the next few years will be set up exactly like Kens 95 is, I really like how simple that set up is. I also want to put gas on my Lt1. Mike Pablon hit 9.6s in the mid 130s on a 250 shot stock short block LS1, car trapped 118 motor. I think thats the goal I want to really shoot for, 9s on the stock short block with an LT1. A guy I worked for ran a 300 shot on race gas with awesome fuel system in his Impala SS. I just got to set the suspension up right so the car hooks like crazy. I'm sure by the time its done I'll be running in street classics, but I'm holding on to this lil red LT1 TA. For any one else that wants to hold on to theirs and push em, good luck.

LT1's may not have the power that LS1's have, but they can take the beating soooo much better. If you beat on an LS1 for about a year, its junk. The aluminum motor just cannot take the beating that the LT1 can. I've seen several LT1's makr it to 300+ thousand miles and I'm yet to hear of an LS1 accomplishing that.

A LS1 may be faster off the showroom floor, but beat on it for a year, then race an LT1 thats been beaten on for 5 years.....

Ofcourse they're faster then the LT1's.. The LS1 Has Far Better heads and Valvetrain then the LT1 has. It also has Shorty style manifolds compared to the Restrictive POS the LT1's have.

Man you have a 1le car....you lucky sob. Yea, Lt1s take a 175 shots fromw aht i ahve seen. Guy we use to street race ran a 200 on his, another guy Robert Gulley, my old Boss, 300 stock short blcok car. With an Lt1, n20 is the great equalizer.

Of course I was just kidding.

Now that I've got the tranny back together with beefier internals I'm ready to give her another rip. Been driving the thing around and taking it easy (well kinda except for a run against a friend here a while back) on an old and tired M6. Eager to drop the hammer on the new stuff once it's been through a few heat cycles.

Not really worried about the LS1's either. Stock vs stock... they have the better breathing but I aint anywhere near stock.

Mid Game,
You know more than i do, I'm really just starting to laarn about motor and heads, but personaly i think the LT1 salvation is in Gen I heads that have been converted over to revese flow. Gen 1 heads I think equalize the playing field a little bit and then nitrous just fixes every thing else

I like my LT1 for its sound, but an LS1 is what I lust for. Yea an LT1 can be made fast, apply those same changes to an LS1 and you get VERY fast. I think its a bizarre dichotomy, if you are broke get an LS1 because its damn fast stock, if you have money....get an LT1 because its gonna cost you a HECK of alot of money to go fast. I've been wrestling with this for 2 years now-I should have bought an LS1. Everytime I think what it would take for my LT1 to be faster, I think of that same amount of money applied to my AWD Talon and the LT1 loses. Heck if I would have applied the same money I have on my LT1 to an LS1 I'd be comfotable in the 12's. I guess its why my last 2 DSM's have been much faster than my LT1, I love the sound but you can't go fast cheap. When you are paying a mortgage + child support fast and cheap is good!! Also please don't think I hate my LT1, its been a rock solid car for two years-has served me darn well.

95,000 mile stock bottom end with a tiny cam, ported heads, stall, gears, and mid length emissions legal headers has got me 12.0 @ 112 MPH. This is a full weight/air conditioned car with a stock suspension.

Yea, I'll say I like my LT1....LOL

I like my LT1............when I can drive it. Last time my car was driven without a problem was last May. Yup, a full year. Head cam package, and popped a ring land at the same time.

But I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love working on the car, I love to drive it, and I own two LT1 cars, nuff said.
