Where do people go wrong when cleaning maf?

I'm gonna attempt to clean my maf sometime soon. I'de like to know where people go wrong when they clean it? So i can avoid damaging mine.
I searched how to clean it..but never really found an answer to what breaks or gets damaged?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not really sure where others go wrong.

All I ever do is spray electrical cleaner on on the wires.

Use only a cleaner intended for an MAF sensor. CRC makes one. Follow the instructions on the can.

It's normally the small, very thin sensor wire that gets damaged or broken. Using the wrong cleaner can "coat" the wire and cause sensor reading errors.

No need to take it apart, but you can if you want to. Leave the screen intact as well, just clean it. Always use electric contact cleaner like Fred said, I have CRC as well, they sell in O'Reilly's. Don't try to touch or wipe anything down inside by the wires cause you take the chance of breaking them.

I cleaned mine with some electronics cleaners and Q-tips a few months ago. And it made a HUGE difference in engine smoothness.

on a side note, what should the normal maf reading be for a 95 z28 with lingenfelter CAI and headers, everything else stock? a custmer of mine has a major lack of power and wonder if this could be the problem. its a stock sensor that has been descreened before he bought the car. all other redings look fine on the scanner but the maf gm/s read a top of 167 gms/s at wot and that is at the top of the rpm band. this car just feels slower then all the other ones i have driven. thanks in advance
