I've tried Home Depot, Autozone, NAPA, and Advance Auto Parts. Nobody carries a 7/16 x 20 threaded rod or bolt so I can install my crank hub! Looks like I may be shelling out the $30 for the Snap-On tool.

OK...I found NAPA carries a Leaf Spring Center Bolt, 7/16 x 20 in 6,8,12 inch lengths, problem is it's only Grade 2. Is that gonna be strong enough?

 

It's strong enough. It should work fine.

 

Try to find a industrial fastener store in your area. They have all the grade 8 stuff in just about every size and length. Call a couple of the industrial tool houses in your area (places that sell BIG tools) they should be able to tell you were one is at.

I called a few places that sell undustrial stuff and even they said that 7/16 with a fine thread is not a popular size. I did find some grade 2 stuff at NAPA, but I'm questioning weather it will be strong enough.

Any body have the name of a national chain that would sell something like that? I'd feel much safer with a grade 8 piece.

 

Ziegler Nut and Bolt down here in Canton might have what you are looking for. Its a large warehouse that sells nothing but nuts, bolts and threaded rods. Come to think of it, thats where I got my threaded rod when I did my heads and cam. I don't know what grade the rod was but it was enough to get the crank hub on.

I already called and asked and they do have 7/16 x 20 threaded rods. The strongest grade is 11.51$ for 3 feet.

You can call and order it if you don't know where it is (its a hard place to find) or I can pick one up for you and just meet me at Summit Racing's parking lot since I have to go up there either today or tomorrow after work. The choice is yours.

I work in Hudson so I'm just gonna drive down there on my lunch break. They told you $12? They told me $5, but that was for grade 8, I wasn't aware of anything stronger.

 

As a side note, a rubber head mallet can put the hub on. Just hit the hub, dead center, with several small taps. You'll probably be going at it for a good 5 minutes, but it will get it on deep enough to where you can use the real bolt to finish it off.
