Are you talking about a big block? There are many sources, making a logical recommendation depends on knowing more about what you want.

A 427ci small block is an exotic beast, I assume that's not what you are talking about?

Good luck if you're trying to find a big block. But if you do, great things will happen .

Big blocks were produced in the late 60's, small blocks are made with lots of aftermarket parts, like a motown block, and a aftermarket stroker crank. ect both are now expensive to build. there was never a production small block 427.

BB and SB are two completely different motors. If you have to ask this question, and you are on an F-body bulletin board, I can only assume you are looking for a small block. While it's possible to fit a big block in a 3rd or 4th generation (1993-2002) F-body, it's not very practical.

Small blocks include the famous 327, the ubiquitous 350 (of which the LT1 in 4th gens is a derivative) and the oddball 400. The 350 has a 4.00" bore and a 3.48" stroke. A 427ci small block can be built. It's a very expensive proposition. Most modified LT1's are either bored out to 355ci, or bored and stroked to either 383ci (3.75" stroke) or 396ci (3.875" stroke)

The 427 sb is not that expensive to build, at least not anymore. You can buy a complete shortblock from Bill Mitchell for $4600 and guys like Shafiroff are offering complete 675-750hp Sportsman packages from ~9-10k. Of course those are high compression race engines but they are easy enough to put dished pistons in.
Now, for the induction... whether to go fuel injection or not is going to make the difference in cost. You'd be crazy not to research the actual cost before getting involved in something like this though.
There is a gentlemen here locally running a 434 (.030 over) in his 92 Vette, using a throttle body on a Brodix carb intake and Accel DFI. At last call, he has about 12k in the motor.

A new WP Motown SBC block is coming out soon, as revealed at the '02 SEMA convention. From CHP:

"The World Products Motown cast-iron block has been available for some time, but with Felpro's new 4.250"-bore head gasket, World claims you can now built a standard-deck-height 454ci small block with a 4.250" bore and 4.00" stroke." (March '03, page 16)

So we may soon be able to easily fit 454ci in 4th gens w/o the need for BBs. I was going to turbo a 383 for my car, but since I'm gonna end up ditching the opti anyway I might wait for this new block and have a turbo 454.
