Question WHERE TO BUY 02'S running rich!!!!

My car is running rich, and I believe it is due to my o2s. The car runs fine for about the first min, then starts running really rich. Could someone let me know where the best place is to buy new o2s, and how many would I need. Also is there a way to check to see if they are good or bad or not. Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks David

From what I gather you need some kind of tester to see if their good or bad, as for where to get them, you can prolly just run into advance or auto zone, im sure you won't save that much trying to hunt around online but I could be wrong.

Buy GM brand 02's, Dal Slabaugh at lockitup@bright.net has good prices, about 12% over dealer cost. I paid $36.00 ea last year, very nice person to deal with also.

Re: WHERE TO BUY 02'S running rich!!!!

First, you need to determine the cause of the problem. Running rich can be caused by exhaust leaks, misfires or faulty O2 sensors. Sounds like your engine is running fine when its in open loop on cold startup, then runs rough when it goes into closed loop. It might be helpful to get a data log of the engine operation over a normal drive cycle, if you know someone who has logging software like AutoTap.

If you decide to buy new O2 sensors, it seems like people have the best luck using the OEM AC/Delco sensors. They are available for about 1/2 of what you would pay a dealer, plus shipping, from a couple of online GM parts dealers. Go to Shoebox's Tech Pages (if you haven't found that site yet, go there and bookmark it - its the best source of info for our LT1's) and look at "Where to buy your GM parts".

How do you remove the passanger side O2 on stock manifolds? I removed my starter and was able to grip onto the sensor with vise-grips. I couldn't get leverage to get it out though.

My rule is... always go with OEM O2 sensors. AC Delco for GM.

You're probably not going to be able to remove them with vice grips, and I can't believe you tried. Vice grips are a last resort. Cut the wires and use a box end wrench. But once you cut the wires, you're commited to removal and replacement. Open end should be fine for install. Most O2 sensor sockets are too weak to get old ones out, but can work for install. Good luck.

i had a hell of a time getting the pass. side o2 sensor out, but the way i did it was to stick my skinniny arms up under the car and disconnect the sensor, and put the o2 socket on it, then i lowered the car (it was on a lift) and used a series of extensions and swivel joints and a breaker bar, and got it from the top. i think we used like 2 6 inch extenstions, and 2 swivels cause when we used one swivel it was to much of an angel to get any leverage on it.

If you'll soak it with some penetrant for half a day then use sockets with extensions and a swivel or two, you should be able to work it out. Be careful, sometimes they bond and you don't want to break bonded o2 threads off in the bung.

I got my Ac Delco's at advanceautoparts.com but I think they stopped carrying them.
