when wetmy motor spins backward!!!
i knew the title would get you in here!!
when my 94 TA sits for a few days and it rains it starts realy realy hard... im assuming its the coil. but what the wierd thing is, is that when im rolling it over, and let off the key so im not burning my starter up sometimes the car will like buck like it wants to start. well the other day it did this but i had a friend in the car rolling it over as i stood in the front of the car (jumper cables where hooked up) and i looked down at the alternator as it was bucking and it was spinning backward! i didnt think i was seeing it correctly so i had him roll it over again and sure enough when he let off the key it started spinning the opposite way imidiately! what will cause this? oh by the way the car always starts back up after a while.

if it is turning the correct direction while cranking and only spinning bacjwards a little when you sop this is normal if there is pressure in a cylinder when it is in the upstoke (compression stroke) the pressure will cause that piston to move back down causing the engine to spin backwards somthing like 1/4 turn.

Did you drive over any really big bunjee cords lately?
Sounds impossible, but I believe you. So, here's one appropriately unlikely potential cause for this crazy symptom: If the exhaust was plugging intermittently (somehow) and you were building up a hundred+ PSI in the exhaust during cranking, could that stored energy then spin the engine backwards a couple revs after the starter disengages, like an air motor?
BTW, hooking a starter motor up backwards does not make it run the other way, so that's not it. Reversing the polarity on the stator coils only might, though.
