When do I need bigger fuel pump?
When do I need bigger fuel pump?
OK guys, what is the limit for the stock fuel pump? I have seen talk and formuals for the fuel injectors, but don't see anything about the stock pump. I see a lot of people getting the 255 lph pumps but not a lot of reasons put out there for what prompted the upgrade. I understand that as power goes up, fuel consumption follows, but about how far can I go until I need to get a better than stock pump?
The reason I am asking is because I am building up a motor for an 86 IROC. The motor came from a retired cruiser and was an LT1.
Mods so far: LT4 intake, AFR 195cc heads, Comp 503 grind, 6" rods, and bored + stroked for 383 cubes.
I just ordered some Racetronix injectors and was wondering if I should just go ahead and order a pump too...

Re: When do I need bigger fuel pump?
The stock pumps die on a regular basis and most guys step up to a 255 lph when they replace it. As far as what you need, a fuel pressure gauge is a good investment. If the fuel pressure starts to drop under high demand conditions, time to upgrade.
