What's wrong with my Starter?

I've been getting this odd noise from my starter when I crank it. Somethimg was telling me it wasn't ok. Well, yesterday, it died. It feels like it just spins, and it's like is not making contact with the flywheel.
The starter is about a year old. Could've some screws come loose? Or the Bendix type thing may not be actuating? Like it's not ejecting?
Anything I can do to fire it up, and drive it to my mechanic tomorrow?
I don't feel like getting a tow truck.
Please advise.
Thanks-Goose.

Turn ignition on, roll car down the road in neutral, push in clutch, put in second gear, pop clutch out and push clutch back in when car fires.

Wow! You never thought of pop starting it? Lol.

You prolly spun the gears off if it has been making noise for a few days or whatever.

Actually, I did try that. That was the first thing to pop in my head. LOL! But, no, it didn't seem to work.
