Whats the redline on a 96 z28?

I hear people talking of redline at 5700 or 5800, however, my car is stock pcm/tranny and it will shift(if I floor it) at 6000 every time.....no matter what, also if i hold it in gear manually with it on the floor and shift at 5500, it will hold it out until 6000 and then shift, my rev limiter is a 6200 and will kick in if i dont shift at 6k, is this normal????

it should be 5700 or 5800 your tachometer could be off a little or the previous owner could have pushed up the limiter a little.

Rev limiter on the 96 is exactly 5886 RPM for the first gear and 5805 rpm for the rest.

Stock tachs are off by about 2-300 rpm on our cars, so it may seem as the limit is at 6200.

well then that sounds about right, also i meant that it shifts a 6, which makes perfect since according to your explanation, i was talking about the limiter kicking in at 6200, thanks
