383 Stroker Help/Questions.....

After I do the suspension, rear end, and tranny, i wanna do a 383. Whats the best I can do for about $4500? I do need to pass emissions. I want to leave open the possibility for a supercharger later on but if that is gonna drive the cost up on the motor than forget it. I am aiming for 400+hp. $4500 is labor and parts. I have no tools and live in an apartment so there is no way I can do this myself. Thanks for your advice and help.

The absolute cheapest way to go is to buy a crate engine or short block. I know from first hand knowledge because I didn't do it that way. Even still you probably won't stay with in your budget. There are other items you need to buy or services such as reprogramming that will add to the cost. Also as you progress through the project, you'll see items that need to be changed. BTW the Blower alone is almost at the limit of your budget.

The best advice I could give you is to call a company that specializes in engines like Nu-tek or Golen or TPIS. They can give you real good advice.

Your tool and housing situation kind of puts you at a disadvantage. So your kind of at the mercy of people who usually end up being thieves unless you know them or know of them. Not to mention everytime you have a problem you have to ask them for assistance.

Good luck fellow stroker LOL

Just add some heads ported by lloyd

I advise against a blown 383 for a daily driver

ps- if your caris running fine, dont do a 383 "just incase" or for prevtative reasons. Thats kinda like taking penicilin just incase you get sick

First of all the blower would come come sometime AFTER the 383, like a year or so. If at all.

Trey- the 383 would not be my daily driver. I am hoping to buy a beater very soon.

383 are nice

Yea i just installed my nu-tek 383. Its not a bad install but you need the tools, time and space. If you have almost none of these look at least 1000 for a motor install (shop prices) or have a buddy with space to help.

My nu-tek came to a grand total of 6,200, thats will all forged goodies, assembly, cam degreeing, CNC ported LT1 heads (which flow as good as lloyd's heads) But LLoyd's heads rock too! Its just that I got it done with the motor.

I also got 4 bolt splayed caps, and Callies Dragon slayer crank. The cmotor engine is nice, but if your gonna do a blower 383, might as well make a low compression 383 5.7" rods, and do the blower at the same time and i think it needs to be more than 6 psi cus of filling the cyl. to create boost. So add 3K or so for a good one + intercooler.

Your gonna be in for a CHUNK of cash. But the motor you will have will be unreal.

good luck

But if you are doing a blower motor, plan the motor around the blower, like rod ratio, pistons (i recommend JE's forged with NO silicone in the composisiton), cam shaft. This is defintly need to be planned. CUs i ran into the same problem when i was deciding mine.

Now i got a 383 with LT4 HC, 6" rods (better for N/A motors) 11.25 to 1 Compression.

So its a good motor for a 150 shot or more
