Ok heres the what happend i go grab a bite to eat come out get in my car start it as usual it hesitates to start no bggie its always like that i have to turn the key twice to get it started but this time im put my key in turn it its hesitated so i tried to turn it on and it would not come on i thought it was alternator and it sounds like a chainsaw being started up under th car when i try to turn it on then the tow truck guy said it sounds like the flywheel is stuck idk what do you guys think????

 

I'd suspect the starter is at the root of the problem.

If the flywheel (flex-plate) is "stuck" that would make me suspect the engine is locked, which doesn't seem likely since the engine apparently was running normally before this began.

Many times you can tap the starter with a hammer or something similar that'll "un-stick" the starter. If doing that frees the starter, you'll need a new one or rebuild the one you have.

thanks where is the starter located?

 

Might need to get it up a couple inches with a jack...but it buts against the bell housing, you cant miss it. Passenger side if my memory serves me???

 

its right near the oil pain and the flywheel very easy to find closest to passenger side.

Did he say somewhere that the car was an auto car? Just wondering because you took the time to point out that by flywheel he meant flex-plate, but maybe the car is a manual car and by flywheel he means flywheel...

Force of habit from over 40 years of listening to guys talking about cars and reading articles about them.

On forums such as this one, I've found that many posters aren't precise in their vocabulary usage. Posting things like "adjusting valves", when virtually all of them are dealing with hydraulic cams which means "adjusting lifter preload" would be the accurate thing to write. Add to that that most LT1s are automatics. Add to that he was relaying what a "tow truck guy" said.

Most times when attempting to trouble-shoot a problem, it's very mportant to be precise. Otherwise we end up spening effort interpreting what he meant as opposed to what he wrote.

Seemed like the logical thing to me. Of course, your mileage may vary.
