whats a good scanner, and cheap too.
You might want to try a "search".... I know in the past week I posted a cut & paste of a huge list of scan hardware and software for both OBD-i and OBD-II, including names, model numbers, typical prices and link to the source.
Looked at all the links etc...
I have a 1995 z-28 with a obdi setup and a obd2 connector 16 pin, I found a autoxray for 95 dollars but it has the obdi connector, can a 16 pin cable be had? And I think I am reading it right, it needs to be reprogrammed or something like that, so can I get this unit with the 12 pin cable and change it to a 16 pin? How much will all this be?

I got an Actron Scantool with OBD1 and OBD2 cables and software. It may not be the best but I got a screamin deal on it.
It works great for pulling codes and reading what the sensors are doing.
I think you can get one new at Autozone for like 120 for scantool and 70 for OBD1 software.
OBD2 software and cable are like 160
I got all mine for about 150.

just bought a autoxray off ebay for...
100.00 delivered, comes with the 12 pin cable and if you go to the Autoxray website it shows you how to hook the 12 pin scanner cable to the 16 pin cable for free with jumper wires.
