I've heard that out of the box stock, that the iron casting flow better, but the aluminum heads are better for porting, I'm not 100% sure on that though.

From what I have heard. Iron flows better (better no matter what as long as you are comparing apples to apples)
Aluminum is lighter, and easier to port.

The irons have a bigger chamber(62-64cc) and pressed studs. I think it would be interesting to see folks try them for boost builds but almost nobody does.

The iron heads are not Impala specific either, they were used on the Roadmaster, Fleetwood and LT1 Caprice as well.

I was wondering the same thing. My 1996 Formula engine came with iron heads cuz the guy I bought it from was going to use it for a nitrus build. He decided to go with an LS1 so I bought the engine from him. I have a set of stock 1996 Aluminum heads, but I dont know if it would be worth the hassel of swapping them out.

Weight reduction if you did swap.

In addition to the weight savings, the heat transfer characteristics of aluminum generally allow the engine to operate with a higher compression ratio and more ignition advance.
