What sensor/module is in the rear hatch?

What sensor/module is in the rear hatch?
Yesterday I took off the rear hatch panel(the one that covers the spare) and I saw a black square little box hanging by a couple wires.

Anyone have an idea what this is?

Ok...what does it do or what implications does it have? Should it no be hanging and be secure?

There should be a little **** on there so you can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor. I'm pretty sure there is a location that it should be mounted to. Should be pretty close to where it's hanging.
