What other cams work with the LT4 rockers?

I just picked up an LT4 last week to throw in my 93 that spun a bearing. My understanding on cam selection running the stock TTY rockers is limited to only the stock LT4 cam and the Hotcam. Something to do with the base circle. I dont buy it. There have got to be others. I would love a Crane 227 or LPE 219 (or similar baby cam) to be able to work. Maybe my understanding is off about the whole shebang.

Help me CamaroZ28.com, youre my only hope.

What parts of an LT4 did you pick up?

What is a TTY rocker?

The stock LT4 rockers were crane Gold 1.6X. They are compatible with anything, unless they result in too much lift.

Not sure I understand the question.

OGM!!!! After 25 years I get to tell Freed something. :

TTY =Torque To Yield. But that would be the studs, not the rockers. You are just going to do a normal valve lash.

But as Fred already mentioned, those are self aligning rockers and yes you can use them, you just need to verify the valve springs are designed for the amount of cam lift so you don't go into coil bind.

As far as cams. In my opinion the hot cam is a good choice. might make a few more HPs then the others. The 227 might be a bit stronger down low, the 219 better in the mid range. I ran the 211/219 cam with shorty headers and 3;42 gears ( stock 93 was 3:23s ). and the cam was allot of fun on the street, but was a bit of an under achiever on the strip. Over 5K it did fall off. If you are looking to just add a little punch to a street car then I think the 219 is a good cam. 211/219 - Manual trans, 291/219 for an auto is the basic rule. my 211/219 had a slight but noticeable lope and I passed PA emissions with no problems.

It is an LT4 engine.

This thread, post #4 is my issue...

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-question.html

From what ive read, the Hotcam and the stock cam, do not require valve lash to be set. They are set up like the 3800 buick v6 engines, torque to spec. Again this is what ive read numerous times.

BTW, the rockers look more silver than gold with the oil cap off

OK.... a complete LT4 engine. I thought you might mean a set of LT4 rockers. The factory LT4’s are non-adjustable, but the GMPP LT4’s were adjustable.

Not sure where TTY comes in. I doubt you would tighten the rocker nut to the point it stretches the stud past the elastic limit. Would more likely be torque to spec. But I honestly don¡t know. I've never touched a 3,8L engine.

The whole setup with no adjustment would hinge on very precise geometry and valve train dimensional control, including cam base circle. This reference indicates there may be shims involved, as well:

Might be worth getting the factory service manual for the LT4. Alternative would be to use the 3/8” rocker studs from your LT1 engine (or a new set of 7/16”), and a new set of 1.6 rocker arms.
