According to the dash tach, what should my LT1 be idling at?

M6? Should set right about the 1000 mark on the dash. Maybe a hair below. Its set at 800 rpms, most Z tachs I have seen read @ 200 high.

 

What is the easiest way I can verify "actual RPM". I am trying to calibrate needles which appear to be off.

well my 97 A4 LT1 idles right on 1000 RPM..

 

Hook up a scanner. It will tell you the RPM (to the closest 25rpm increment), based on counting the pulses from the Opti.

 

My 97 Z-28 runs around 750rpms , seems low compared to other people.

I hate that crap, I had Ion lower mine to 650 when he did the mailorder tune, I like it much better now.

 

my 95 z28 idles at about 550 to 600 once it warms up i always thougth it was a little to low compared to others never knew way

 

The factory PCM programming for an A4 is 550 RPM in gear and 650 RPM in neutral. An A4 that idles at 1,000 RPM has either been reprogrammed or is not operating correctly. Not sure why anyone would even post that information, particularly when the original post is about an M6.
