Question What is involved in "stroking"?

Pardon my ignorance, but I was looking a the 383 GP going on right now.

After I get my parts, I am assuming that the ID (inside diameter) of the cylinders have to be milled out. What else has to be done?

I bow before the knowledge of those here.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you need to have the cylinders bored and honed to fit the new pistons. These will probably be .030 inches oversize so that the bores will clean up the wear marks and also give you about 5-6 more cubic inches. The honing makes the bores round, finishes them to the exact size and puts the correct finish and pattern on the cylinder walls for best ring sealing.

With any stroker there may be some areas of the lower part of the block that will nead minor hand grinding for clearance.

Bret and Jason's group purchase provides assemblies that are already balanced, if you wish, so after that it's mostly bolt together.

However, just increasing the displacement without doing head and cam/valvetrain doesn't get you too much more power. You might consider upgrading here, too.

Sorry

My apologies, I didn't state what I already have.

Already on the car, stage III heads, 1.7 rr's (long story), titanium guide plates, cc305, chrome moly pushroads, ported and polished LT4 intake (matched to heads), and ported tb, 34 lbs fuel injectors, high rpm springs.....

I wasn't happy with my hp gains, and wished I had stroked the damn thing to begin with......

Thanks for you quick response!

You sound like a good candidate.

96z's Bauer 383 stroker made 433 rwhp/420rwtq with a similar combo. I'd like to hear the 1.7 rocker story.

Here's the thread on 96z's engine:
